 Septic System Overview

An On-Site Sewage Facility (OSSF), or more commonly known as a “septic system” are underground systems used to capture and treat wastewater. Septic systems  are  commonly found in rural areas where city sewage systems are not available.
There are many types of Septic Systems available however, to know what options are available a proper Site Evaluation must be performed by a licensed Site Evaluator or at a minimum a consultation with an experienced Installer who knows the working environment and local regulations regarding OSSF's.

Typically, the use of a machine capable of digging profile holes typically 4ft to 5ft Deep in the "proposed" septic location to identify conditions and situations which allow the Site Evaluator to determine factors such as Clays, Rock, Ground Water, Silts and Sands or in some cases a restrictive horizon.  Flood Plains, Water Well locations, surface drainage, steep drop offs, set back distances, etc., and various other factors impact the best location of the septic and the type that would be allowed by the TCEQ and local county Inspectors.

Aerobic Treatment Unit (ATU)
We are Licensed by the TCEQ to perform and Install any type of On-Site Sewage Facility.  We prefer to install the simplest least complex, least expensive system available to the consumer.  A "Standard" Septic System such as a two compartment Tank and Drain Line Trenches utilizing Infiltrator Quick 4 Chambers is our preferred choice for our consumers due to its minimal maintenance costs and customer satisfaction.  Simple still works!  And is typically approved in most areas by the local permitting authorities.  Having to Pump the Effluent to a suitable location is a preferred option to avoid  alternative systems such as the Aerobic Treatment Units illustrated below.
Aerobic Treatment Units ATU's) treat wastewater using a scaled-down version of the same processes used by municipal wastewater treatment systems. They treat wastewater well enough to be used in conjunction with spray systems, which distribute treated wastewater over lawns or sub-surface. These systems have full time electrical power requirements to function properly. Pumps require this power source to discharge the treated waste typically through pop-up sprinklers.
Some of these systems use special tablets or liquid bleach to disinfect the wastewater prior to discharge.  These systems require much more attention and do cost much more to install and maintain than conventional "Standard" Septic Systems.

Septic Repair

Repairing a system may mean as little as fixing a damaged or broken pipe or Tank Lid. If your system is much older, a “repair” may  mean installing a whole new system.  Many factors determine the extent of repair or replacement needed.

However, regulations introduced by the state of Texas in 1996 require that all planning, installation, construction, alteration, extension, repair and operation of an OSSF must be in accordance with new rules.  The term "Grandfathered" has no influence on the TCEQ requirements enforced by local regulatory agencies that govern On-Site Sewage Facilities.

If it is determined that the system will require major repair, a site evaluation and permitting would be required before the installation or repairs can be made.
